Job Purpose
The Curriculum & Engagement Lead is a senior practitioner responsible for ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and engagement across all rooms. This role works hands-on with staff, strengthening their knowledge and practice while ensuring that children receive rich, engaging, and purposeful learning experiences every day.
Working closely with Room Leaders and Practitioners, the Curriculum & Engagement Lead will embed best practices, coach staff in real-time, and uplift the overall quality of early years education throughout the setting. This role requires working across all rooms as needed, ensuring consistency, engagement, and curriculum excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Enhancing Curriculum Delivery Across the Nursery
Ensure all rooms are delivering engaging and meaningful learning experiences based on EYFS principles.
Support staff in planning high-quality activities that balance child-led play and structured learning.
Help practitioners understand and implement the curriculum effectively, making learning purposeful rather than just "free play."
2. Boosting Staff Confidence & Practice
Work alongside Room Leaders and Practitioners to strengthen their understanding of high-quality interactions.
Provide in-the-moment coaching to help staff enhance their teaching techniques and engagement.
Identify staff training needs and implement quick, effective development sessions without disrupting ratios.
Support new and developing practitioners to increase their confidence and competency in delivering the curriculum.
3. Driving Engagement & Quality Across All Rooms
Regularly work in all rooms as required, providing additional support where needed.
Ensure a high level of child engagement and interaction in all learning experiences.
Conduct weekly quality checks in different rooms to identify and address gaps in practice.
Model best practices in language development, child-led learning, and positive behavior management.
4. Strengthening Parental Communication & Handover Quality
Support staff in delivering clear, informative, and positive handovers to parents.
Help practitioners communicate learning progress effectively to families.
Ensure that parents feel informed and engaged with their child's daily experiences at nursery.
5. Promoting a High-Quality Learning Environment
Work with Room Leaders to create inviting, well-resourced learning spaces that stimulate curiosity and exploration.
Ensure activities and environments are inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and engaging.
Support the team in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and classroom setup.
